What are your primary responsibilities as a Business Compliance Specialist for COLUMBIA cruise services?
As a Business Compliance Specialist for a global organisation, my role is to ensure compliance and facilitate communication within the organisation. I liaise with the different departments to finalise agreements, assist Top Management, follow up on customer complaints, and arrange and prepare client meetings. I also manage projects assigned by Top Management, support and implement changes into our company’s management system, support procedure development, and handle all additional tasks as needed. It is crucial for COLUMBIA cruise services to always be on top of compliance and regulations for our global operations.
Where is your job based, i.e., name of city if office job, name of vessel if on board?
My position is based in our offices in Hamburg, Germany.
What is your background and why did you choose the cruise/marine industry?
I initially completed an apprenticeship in marketing communications. I then worked as a Project Manager at an advertising agency before deciding to study. Following my studies, I pursued other opportunities briefly, before joining the project management team at COLUMBIA blue, and now settled at CCS.
What other experiences in the maritime industry have you had?
I grew up in Hamburg, so I have always been connected to the harbour, ships, and water. With Hamburg being a prominent port on the River Elbe, I have been very aware of the seagoing culture and the maritime industry my whole life.
What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is the variety. No day is like the other, and you never know what the day will bring. This diversity is incredibly enjoyable because I constantly learn new things and can develop in different areas. It’s never boring. Additionally, I particularly enjoy interacting with many different people from various parts of the world on a daily basis.
If you could take a cruise to any place in the world, where would it be and why?
I would probably explore small ports on a somewhat smaller cruise ship – the destination doesn’t matter, as long as the climate is warm.
What are your future goals for a career in the maritime industry?
I want to acquire as much knowledge as possible, continue developing, and see where the journey takes me. I particularly enjoy the variety in this industry, which is why I’m keen to see where I will end up. I would like to remain in management, as long as I continue to work with a diverse range of people and have opportunities for ongoing growth.
What are your favourite leisure-time activities?
Football is my top priority. If I have some free time, you’ll find me at the most beautiful spots in Hamburg. Hit me up if you need any recommendations.
